Turkish tiles

Turkish tiles were used in capital buildings in the Ottoman Imperium (Edirne Ysanbul). The craftsmen that made the Turkish tiles used red clay. The earthenware was intended for everyday use. The underside of the Turkish tile was white. Both the pots and tiles were also made in Kutahya and Anatolia. In the 14th century coloured prints were used, inspired by China, and in the 15th century tiles were made in blue and white.

Many foreign traders and diplomats bought these beautiful Turkish tiles and pots. The Turkish tiles came from Yznik originally and are still being produced there today.
